Here is a good place to introduce your company or organization. Let the user know what you are all about by giving a good brief description of your company. Keep the description succint, and to the point so as not to bore the user. Invite them to visit the other pages of the site where they can discover more about your company. A good home page will include the following:
- Original Content: This is the personal content that the author of the site brings to the users. With The internet being so vast users are looking for websites that offer something new, and a unique home page is what gives users a sense of freshness.
- Depth: A good homepage will give the user a sense that there is more to the site than meets the eye. This is not neccessarily about the number of pages, or information on the pages, but about presenting the information in a way that makes the user want to learn more.
- Creativity: The same basic set of tools for creating a website is the same for virtually everyone. So on the homepage of your site you want to find new and innovative ways to use these tools so your site is set apart from others that are selling similar products and services.
- Above all Keep your home page short and to the point. Users tend to skim over the homepage to find out if the site is able to meet their needs. Think of the home page as like a resume. You want to get your user's attention quick, and then keep it through out the rest of the site.
